It was inevitable. The tagline for The Hutch Post from Day 1 has been, “Life is about more than books and baking—but not much more.” When you write about books and baking, eventually you write a bakebook.

Last month, my phone battery went to zero, and it did one of those hard shutdowns. After I plugged it in, a strange thing had happened. All of the windows on my Safari app had closed. And more alarmingly, all of my favorites and bookmarks had vanished. Hundreds of recipes saved from across the internet. Gone.

It was the final straw. I had to sit down and get all my favorite recipes in one place on hard copy. One thing is for sure, a cookbook will never accidentally disappear into the ether. When you rise in the morning, it will still be on the counter open to where you left it the night before, spattered with egg and flecked with flour.

I don’t pretend to be a “creative” or an “innovator” in the kitchen. Somewhere along the way, we decided that “being a baker” meant we have to do new things in the kitchen. For me, it is enough to learn how to do old things well.

Here’s the blurb from the book’s back cover:

What happens when a family builds a pie hutch and starts baking for the neighbors? The Ashbys are on a journey to find out the answer:

"We are collectors. We find things we love, and we love them to death. These are recipes treasured at the Ashby house and in the neighborhoods where we’ve lived. They are cookies, pies, and goodies that friends ask for by name. Items my children hope will not sell out so that they can eat the leftovers!"

Get your fists into the dough with this bakebook, filled with all of the best standard recipes every baker must master to bake well—sandwich loaf, sourdough, chocolate cake, scones, cookies, and more. It’s all of the recipes and none of the fluff. We love to eat, therefore we bake. So true! Let this volume teach you to love baking for its own sake too.

Our bakebook contains all the fan-favorites from The Hutch and all the recipes we regularly make at the Ashby house: from bread to cookies and scones to pies. You can get your hands on a hardback copy at Amazon today!
